Great food. Especially since it has finally settled into a good chain. Great staff as it always has been. Even before the refurb. And good atmosphere which is separated by the bar. Good to watch sports in the bar. But also for meetups with friends and family for food in the dining area. And outside areas too.

Stopped off here on holiday for some lunch and it was a great find. Dog friendly areas, nice decor, lots of choice on food. It came quickly enough and service was good. Also very reasonably priced. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I will look out for this chain of pubs in other areas.

When we walked into the near empty pub, a member of staff who was sitting eating abruptly asked if we had booked. I replied, "Do we need to?" and was simply told to "sit anywhere that isn’t reserved." I ordered two jacket potatoes with cheese and beans from the larger kids’ menu for my two 9-year-olds. What arrived was tiny—about the size of a pebble, certainly not what you’d expect from a "larger" kids’ meal. The potatoes were rock hard, with only a small spoonful of about 8 beans. When I questioned why they were so small, I was told they were kids’ portions. Both meals had to be sent back because the potatoes were so hard my children couldn’t even cut through them. I also ordered the lasagne which was extremely disappointing. It was unappetising in both appearance and taste. To make matters worse, the glasses we were given were filthy, with lipstick marks still on them. They clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. Overall, the food and service were both very poor, making for a really disappointing first visit. I certainly won’t be returning

The food was nice especially considering that the prices are reasonable. However, the staff here when we visited today weren’t great at all. It was like a gossip club! The service in terms of plates being taken away and the table being cleared was non-existent! When I ordered a drink at the bar, I got a bit lost and ended up walking to the other end of the bar to discover loads of dirty and used plates and glasses which hadn’t been cleaned, just pushed to the end of the bar! Where we sat, there was a cobweb above my head. The toilet I went into had seen better days! There was dust on the panel near the sink which I have photographed and also, the soap holder was rusty and untidy. To conclude, I took a photo from the door as I saw used, dirty glasses that were still at the bar. I took a photo of this before leaving (photo shown)

We called over to the castle on monday evening, it was pleasant so we sat outside in the back courtyard, we had the dog with us so was ideal. I opted for the Tomopork steak a pork version of a beef tomohawk steak. It was delicious, i cant stop thinking a bout it, it came on a skillet with onions and peppers , i had mine with basmati rice which was lovely. Im trying to find time to pop back to have it again as i can still taste it 3 days later ha. I quite like the green king places, you sort of know what your gonna get, the foods tasty and reasonably priced. Would recommend
