Loved this chippy, The food was fresh and tasty, They are a small family business so it feels so welcoming and also wholesome to support local businesses. Definitely my new go-to chip shop!. Highly recommended.

We have ordered for this chippy multiple times and its either a hit or miss. Its either really high quality (fish supper) or very poor. Tonight we had another poor quality fish supper, over cooked fish (dry and like cotton wool), batter caked in oil and soggy chips. Not really what to expect when you spend £42 on an order. We are just so disappointed because we know how good the food can be but the price isn't worth the risk anymore unfortunately.

Ordered on line for first time today. Usually just go to the shop. The order arrived fish chips hamburger and jar of pickles. On taking a bite of the fish it didn’t taste as normal. I asked my partner to have some and he said that doesn’t taste right. We both thought it was off. At first we weren’t going to complain but it niggled away at me as it wasn’t cheap. I ended up up eating half a burger and a few chips that weren’t great for an order that cost nearly £30 I telephoned the shop and the man I spoke to had a terrible attitude. He said he had sold a lot of fish to day and no one else had complained. In fact the fish delivery had came this morning from the fish market which had been closed for 2 weeks (set off alarm bells) and he personally had put it all away and would have noticed if any fish did not look right. I did suggest that he may have missed it but he said he would have to see the fish and did offer to come and get it to inspect it. Unfortunately my partner had put it in the recycling bag and put it in the outside bin so that wasn’t an option. He then seemed to think I wanted a full refund of the whole order but that was never my intention just the fish . I said I would just vote with my feet and put a review on social media which he thought was unfair. He then said he would send a fresh single fish to my house or 20% off my next order. I really didn’t feel like another bit of fish after just tasting a bit that to me was off. Not really interested in 20% off. Will just not go back. I really just wanted to highlight it to them but this guy made me feel like a liar. If I had been him I would have apologised and suggested a replacement right away. Which I probably would have refused as the notion of a fish supper had worn off but I would have been happy that he had offered and apologised right away.

Looked at menu and tried to order on their website. I stay in Darnley, and was getting a notification that Hook don’t deliver to this area. Which is fine, however I was looking to order and pick up as it’s only an 8 minute drive away. Online, my total order was coming to £34. Called, placed my order, told 20 minutes. 12-inch meat feast pizza, Mac n Cheese, Small Chips, Garlic Bread and 500ml of ice cream. Paid £39 on arrival, tapped my card without thinking. Left, returned 30 seconds later to make sure I’d be charged correctly, as when I was ordering online total came to £34. Lady behind the counter (who was very pleasant) calculated up to £39. I showed the exact same order on website and asked if the prices were wrong. Two men also working there. One said "I should know myself that I would never get a 12 inch meat feast pizza anywhere for £10.20"… I said "It’s your own website that says it’s £10.20, that Hook should be transparent and correct in their pricing." The very nice lady who worked there, said Hook mis pricing isn’t the customers fault, and she handed me £5.10 cash refund. As this was happening, another man who was working there said, somewhat aggressively whilst shaking his head "not meaning to split hairs mate, but did you order online?" He asked the nice lady if I ordered online, she said no he called, and the guy threw his hand up in the air and said "aye well there you go." Looked at the lady with a big smile and said thank you you’ve been very kind and lovely. Food was alright, nothing special and I don’t think it was worth the £34 never mind £39. (It may have been the experience that left a bad taste in my mouth.) Food aside, I’ll never set foot in this place again because the two gents that work there were rude, arrogant, obnoxious and have zero customer service skills. Had they been pleasant, apologised and rectified the error in a positive manner, they would have had a returning customer at some point. I can see from the reviews that I’m not the only person who has commented on the attitude of the men working there. Suggest Hook fix their website with accurate pricing, and could benefit from pricing being more clear and transparent in their shop. Any other chip I’ve been in has the pricing as clear as day. In Hook it’s either unclear or missing, and in any case, does not align with the pricing on their website. To the lady who served me, you were lovely, had excellent customer service skills and should be the only person interacting with customer IMO.
