Customer Reviews
M&S Foodhall has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on over 562 reviews on Google
Many of the reviews mention the cafe and toilet facilities at this locale which from next weekend are both being abandoned to provide more shelves to sell stuff from. As a prostate cancer survivor, having an available loo within walking distance whilst shopping is a very important feature for me. The cafe staff are apparently to be laid off in the "modernisation" process. They (M&S) have that slogan about not just ..... but M&S as though it's the food equivalent of the Rolls Royce. Sadly this is very clever and rather dishonest marketing and if you saw where they procure their eggs from you would truly not buy them. Putting a link here would get this review taken down, but if you Google "Horrific conditions at ‘high-welfare’ farms supplying Marks and Spencer and Happy Egg" you can see for yourself.
Went in for 3 days to buy newspapers - I'm old - and staff did very well in procesing my pre paid vouchers - which rarely work in machines. Also bought some food and beer. All good. Sorry to hear the cafe is closing, there was always customers whwn I was there.
Genuine waste of money here. The fresh produce, particularly the fruit and veg isn't stored correctly. When we walk around we're constantly seeing things rotting in packets, or buying things that go off days before their use-by. The other day I handed a bag of red onions to a member of staff because it was filled with mould. Today I bought two "Perfectly ripe" Avocados, tried to pick the best feeling ones. I cut into them and they were both hard and tasting bitter/like garlic when I cut into them. The staff are too busy trying to police people for taking paper bags without scanning them, rather than ensuring their produce is actually stored and sold fresh. Surely they lose more money throwing out waste than they do in stolen bags.
Went into this store today, Sat 24/1,between 11-11.15. Went to the till furthest away from the main door. As l approached the lady manning the till was clipping her fingernails with a rather large pair of scissors. Apart from it being repulsive to see on a food checkout, goodness knows where thr clippings went, she wasn't the slightest bit embarrassed about it. In fact she was just pretty miserable.
The curries are great + Keralan Prawn & Goan Beef especially
It's M&S & does what M&S foodhalls do. Got an excellent Valentine Day meal deal along with some other things including a couple of reduced items. There's also a decent café & clean customer toilets.
M&S Foodhall is a gem in Glossop. It's not the biggest of stores so some of the range is limited when compared to somewhere like Handforth Dean, The Arndale store or the one at Cheshire Oaks... but for a small town on the edge of the Peak District, we're lucky to have such a resource! The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and most have vast life experience so are really engaging to talk with and can offer opinions on wine pairings (Peter) or the differing produce in the in-store bakery etc. You can also pick up online clothing or home wares orders from the dedicated area at the back of the store near the spirits section, which is really helpful. I have heard a rumour that our cafe may be closing in the spring, which I believe would be a big mistake as often I would come in for a cheese toastie and a hot chocolate with my girls and end up spending £50+ in store as a result... fingers crossed that doesn't happen and that it continues to be a 5-star gem!!!
