Proper Vintage

Very nice and welcoming place. I was on vacation visiting friends and wanted to have afternoon tea at a local place. I don't eat meat, and they were very kind and attentive, preparing something especially for me—so much, too, that I couldn't finish it all! The scone was very soft and had a very unique aroma. I would gladly return, perhaps letting them know in advance if you have any special requests.

A lovely afternoon tea with crustless finger sandwiches, a good variety of savouries, scones with jam and cream, and individual cakes. The staff are efficient and friendly. The teapots and milk jugs were refilled, and if we could have eaten more sandwiches, they would have been added without question. One of our party of six is gluten intolerant and adds: "Delicious food in a tucked away venue. What a delightful gluten free treat, so beautifully presented." We each took away a box of goodies to enjoy at home later.

Wow what an absolute gem we have found! We regularly travel to Grays to see family and prefer to support independent business rather than the chains. We love quirky vintage tea shops and came across this one by chance. Absolutely fantastic, a warm welcome, all staff lovely and friendly. We had tasty mint lamb pie, mash, peas and gravy and all we left on the plate was the pattern lol. We had delicious cakes for desserts and proper coffees. We loved it so much going back there another 2 times to take some family members before we head back home BUT we can see us going there on our monthly visits. 🥰

Got bought this for my birthday and what a treat! Had an afternoon tea which blew every other one I've had away, staff were lovely. My daughter had a veggie breakfast which she really enjoyed. Beautifully decorated, clean. Would 100% recommend and go again.

A beautiful vintage tea room where a visit is a must! Brekkie, lunch & afternoon tea are all fantastic in quality & price. Staff are so friendly & this has become a regular little treat for me.

I was in the area for a car repair and was recommended Proper Vintage over a trip to a boring run of the mill, over priced franchise. I was not disappointed. The second I walked in I was welcomed with huge smiles and genuine good mornings from the staff. I was blown away with the atmosphere. Stunning interior got me thinking of being 8 again in my mums kitchen and got us nattering about the good old days. Then I realised I actually needed to look at the menu and order. Pleasantly surprised by the choice and even more so by the pricing. Being a northenerner it is bred in to me that southern prices are much higher but not in this instance. Ordered a pot of tea (Yorkshire - proper brew) and the all day breakfast. Prepared and on the table in good time. Well cooked quality ingredients. What a way to start my Saturday. Another lovely chat with the staff. Genuine conversation which can be rare. I would recommend Proper Vintage for the atmospher, welcoming staff and the lovely snap (food) It is a hidden gem indeed.
