⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute gem in Lancaster! We had the most wonderful experience at The White Cross. The location is just perfect—the lovely canalside outdoor area is hands down the best spot in town to sit back, relax, and watch the boats drift by on a sunny day. What really sets this place apart, though, is the service. The staff are so fabulous—incredibly welcoming, attentive, and efficient, even when it’s bustling. To top it all off, the food was exceptional. Everything we ordered was fresh, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. Whether you're in the mood for a relaxed drink by the water or a fantastic meal, this place completely delivers. We will definitely be back!
We visited today to celebrate my son’s birthday and had a fantastic experience. Enjoyed a drink outside by the canal before sitting down in the restaurant for lunch. The food was amazing. The service was superb. Compliments to the two ladies that served us both at the bar and at the table because they made the experience so much more enjoyable. Will definitely be back.
Thai curry sauce was flavourless and had hard sweet potato and old wrinkly green beans. There were little hairs all over the curry which I presumed were from the green beans so it really put me off my food. I suggest boiling them or stir frying them before putting them in the curry to help de-fuzz them. Chair seat was dirty and badly worn. No draft cider selection. On the plus side my Mum enjoyed her fish and chips were they happily changed to fries for her.
Great hidden waterside pub / restaurant. Really attentive service and great food and drink too. Right by the Lancaster canal too! Just be careful with less mobile people as access is not that obvious.
Good options for vegetarians. We got the Korean noodles and the butternut squash gnocchi. We also got the sticky toffee pudding - I suggest sharing this as it’s a big portion! Edit: came here again for Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! Portion is huge, lots of veggie gravy and it’s all delicious. Someone on our table had the pork and said it was excellent. We also had the cauliflower cheese.
What a great find. Stopped off for Sunday lunch while waiting for a train. Great location, staff very friendly and obviously a good atmosphere to work in, it came across in the service and the food. We had two chicken dinners and one lamb. With caulifliwer cheese and roasted carrots sides. Genuinely one of the best in a long time. A great range of beers too. Well done Landlord, chefs and front of house.
The food was amazing and I really recommend the battered fish.It came with chips, peas, the fish , and some sauce that I forgot the name of. The food came in pretty fast in around 10 minutes even though there were a lot of people. The drinks always comes first and I must say that their hot chocolate looks and tastes amazing. The staff are very friendly and nice and always ask you if your enjoying your meal after 2minutes of you eating. The atmosphere here is alright but I wouldn’t say it’s the best.Overall I love this place and I recommend coming here with an empty stomach.
