This was a wonderful place for a date night for me and my partner. The restaurant atmosphere was cosy and warm with really delicious food alongside it. The service was really friendly too. We couldn’t recommend coming here more. The sticky toffee pudding was really good and the vegetarian options weren’t a second thought either. Highly recommend.

We went for lunch on our wedding anniversary, food and service were excellent, pub was quiet at lunchtime, but I feel the service would be the same if busy or not. We were made so welcome and a lovely little touch of a card and an extra dish after our meal. Highly recommended.

Our 4th visit to The Phoenix Tavern. As usual the ambience was peaceful with a warmth making you feel comfortable. Kim and her staff were very friendly and promptly attentive. We skipped a starter and ordered the chicken supreme and the fillet of cod as our mains. Well, what can I say, the chefs clearly take pride in presentation of the dishes and served excellent and hot food which was tasty and very well cooked. For desert we had the sticky toffee pudding and raspberry and coconut steamed sponge pudding which were excellent. This is a place we would return to time and time again and look forward to spending time here in the summer. Well done to the whole team and thank you.

We celebrated our Sapphire Wedding Anniversary there today. They had put a lovely card and some lavender on the table. ( Nice touch ) The food was very well presented and tasted delicious. The best roast out I have ever had ! Dessert came out on a plate with Happy Anniversary on in chocolate. Little touches meant a lot to us. Highly recommend!

I went here the other day on a first date, when we both arrived we were quite hot from the weather and walk, so we both just wanted a glass of water to start off with before we sat down and had a meal. So we got our water server to us by the chef and sat out the front. Minutes later the chefs wife (who are the owners) comes out shouting at us and takes away the drinks saying that we’re not allowed to just "get water" as it doesn’t cost anything. The law clearly states that any pub or venue in the UK that is licensed to serve alcohol is legally required by the Licensing Act to provide free drinking water on request. When I mentioned this to her, she said I was wrong. How can a pub landlord not know her own licensing conditions? For me, this is a cause for a review which I will be looking into further with the council. Due to this deplorable abuse we received, we were just left shocked, confused and unsure why it happened. One theory was because we weren’t white. But that’s another story. I tried to go inside and speak with her again calmly to straighten this out with education about the laws on this subject, she refused to even look at me and when I got the chefs attention she then began shouting again (in front of other customers) that I was wrong. She tried to embarrass me about getting water on a first date (even though it was both our choice to get water as we were dehydrated). Some people are too ignorant to educate. But as a pub landlord that is very worrying. So I just left. I will never return to this establishment until a review has been done or a change of management.
