We have came to the scallion before and had a nice experience with their wings and fries deal but standards have definitely lowered. The nduja chilli was slopped messily into the bowl, had very raw tomato flavour was not cooked out at all and did not have nduja in it. Very small portion of chilli compared to the fries too, with sour cream and guacamole slapped into the bowl with no care too. The wings were tiny and there was a meagre amount compared to the huge pile of chips. The sauce on the wings was supposed to be Cajun but tasted of just honey. Very poor meal quality with cheap ingredients and ridiculous portion sizes and presentation, let down!
Good bar. Decent student deals and daily deals. Food looks pretty good but we never had any. Has sky sports and premier sports, a pool table and has quite a lot of booth seating. Outside seating too but it’s on the main road so not the quietest. £4.80 for a Tennents
Great pub with some amazing deals for food. The Sunday Roast is delicious! We also tried the steak frites, £12 on Saturday at time of posting, unreal value for a delicious big portion. Lots of food and excellent value. Staff are friendly too! Can't beat if for tasty great value pub grub in the West End.
We really enjoyed this pub they do a great trad night on a Friday. They also have biodegradable straws which are made of agave straws which I really enjoyed. Save the planet!!
I was looking forward to visiting The Scallion and after seeing the picture on the website I was looking forward to a what looked like a tasty good value(£14 per person)Sunday lunch. On arrival a waitress directed us to a booth which was great until four men were seated in front of who were very excited and were speaking loud,it was a small area with an echo. Then the Sunday lunch arrived, the photo on the website and what we received are two different things - in the photo there was two slices of rare to medium roast beef, actually what was served was what looked and tasted like boil in the bag beef? The mashed potato which was meant to have chives and virgin olive oil in(it didn’t) tasted like packet potato(Smash). The Yorkshire puddings looked and tasted like Aunt Bessie’s however the roast potato, carrot and parsnip were okay however the plate on the whole wasn’t inviting. What I think was cabbage (and dried onion bits?) looked grey, not as would be expected ,green. I ordered cauliflower cheese which arrived quite a bit after being served with our lunch but I did taste it and it was good.I had by this point given up and could eat no more. The two girls serving were good waitresses, they were attentive and did what they could to help. To be fair I did not speak to the waitress/chef about my disappointment. The main thing I would say and trading standards will advise ,the Sunday lunch picture on their website is not what they are serving. They charge £14 per person for the lunch that we were served ,it wasn’t worth it. Change the advertising picture folks and sack the "chef" no good chef I’ve experienced would use boil in the bag beef or packet potato. When the chef(he/she )are touching food(as in a bowl of chips) gloves should be worn(I saw that happening when paying). Two stars for the waitress staff, the chef? let the pub/restaurant down. We won’t be back sadly. All in a very disappointing visit.
