The Black Bull

I took a nostalgic trip to Donington today, a village I left in 1979 and it didn’t let me down when we decided to lunch at The Black Bull. We chose the Liver & Bacon and it was absolutely delicious, piping hot, plentiful and tasty. The vegetables were cooked properly (not al dente) and also piping hot followed by the Lemon Meringue Roulade which I have to say was the lightest roulade I’ve ever eaten. There was a wait for the food but it was absolutely worth it. We will definitely be returning to indulge some of the other dishes we saw being placed at tables. It’s what we call ‘proper’ 😋

Absolutely fantastic Saturday evening meal. Made all the better by our server Charlotte. It warms my heart to see a young person with a sense of humour and character but also a professionalism. Definitely more than 5 ⭐️ for Charlotte. Food and atmosphere great. Food a little slow coming to table but quality and taste made it worth the wait.

The afternoon tea was amazing. We shared a Savoury and a Sweet Afternoon tea. The Savoury consisted of an enormous sausage roll, what seemed to be a large home made scotch egg cut in half, a cheese scone, sandwiches, relish, pickled onions and crisps. The sweet tea consisted of sandwiches, crisps, a fruit scone with jam and cream, 4 different cakes / deserts. All washed down with a copious amount of tea. You definitely need a good apertite. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Charlotte was amazing serving us today. So bubbly and happy to serve us. Made our meal experience in The Balck Bull perfect. The food was also fabulous will definately return soon.

"Julie and I recently held a Celebration of Life for her mum, Gloria, at The Black Bull in Donington, Spalding, Lincolnshire, and it was the perfect setting for such an occasion." The dining room was set up beautifully, with our photo slideshow tribute ready to play on the Big Screen TV & they also arranged our requested Frank Sinatra songs, to play in the background, which created a lovely atmosphere. A tribute table with family photos, a candle and flowers were thoughtfully prepared and meant a great deal to us. The food was outstanding — a hand-cooked, freshly prepared buffet with generous portions and excellent quality throughout. Everything was full of flavour and well received by all our guests. The staff were attentive, compassionate, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. We couldn’t have asked for more and would highly recommend The Black Bull.
