Skewer House Taunton

The Skewer House served some of the best food we’ve eaten in a long time. Every dish was absolutely incredible and full of flavour, and the service throughout was excellent — friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We mentioned that it was my birthday and they even put up decorations for us, which was such a lovely touch and made the evening feel extra special. The sangria was perfect too! The restaurant itself was a little warm, but honestly the amazing food and fantastic atmosphere more than made up for it. We’ll definitely be back!

Top notch place! One of if not my favourite restaurant! Very authentic Madeiran cuisine, fun, friendly, kind atmosphere where everyone is enjoying their time here! I recommend this little gem to all my family & friends!

A great place for meat lovers. Main feature is tender and juicy skewered meats - one type per skewer - hung from a rack at the table. Choice included beef, chicken, pork, lamb and others. Starter was a whole mini chorizo flame-griilled at the table, with garlic bread and olives. Sides are big and would have been enough to share. The skin on fries, grilled halloumi, sweet corn cubes and the sweet potato fries were delicious. Boxes were provided for taking away food that isn't eaten. The alcohol free Super Bock beer was good. Highly recommended.

Our favourite restaurant! We love to visit this little gem for special occasions and date nights, the food is always fantastic and authentic, the atmosphere is always so welcoming and their music choice is top tier. It speaks volumes that the restaurant continues to thrive, as you know the quality of the food never wavers. Would give more than 5 stars if I could!

🍢⭐ One of Somerset's very best restaurants – and still as impressive as ever! We visited The Skewer House in Taunton as a group of six, including two children aged 9 and 11 and four adults, and once again had a fantastic experience. We've been coming here on and off for the last seven or eight years, but for two of our guests it was their first visit. Their verdict at the end of the evening was that it was comfortably one of the top five restaurants they've visited in Somerset, which is quite a compliment and one we would struggle to argue with. 🍖 The food was exceptional. Between us we sampled a variety of skewers including lamb, beef, king prawns, mixed fish, and chicken & chorizo. Every single one was packed with flavour, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. 🍢 One of the things that makes The Skewer House so unique is the way the skewers are served. They arrive hanging from large table stands in the centre of your table, creating a real talking point and dining experience. Even after several visits, it still feels special. 🫒 We started with the marinated olives, which were absolutely delicious and bursting with flavour. 🔥 The flaming chouriço is also a must-order. It's as much a spectacle as it is a starter, arriving alight at the table and always drawing attention from everyone nearby. 🥗 The sides were excellent too. The fresh salad was colourful and well dressed, the coleslaw was incredible, the grilled halloumi was outstanding, and both the skin-on fries and sweet potato fries were superb. The sweet potato fries in particular were absolutely sensational. 🍟 Portion sizes were generous throughout. By the time we'd finished our mains and sides, the children were completely full. They ended up taking their desserts home, not because there was any problem with them, but simply because they couldn't manage another bite. 🍰 One small point worth mentioning was that my son chose the chocolate cheesecake, which happened to be vegan. The portion appeared noticeably lighter and smaller than some of the other desserts. This was explained by the staff and wasn't a problem, but had he realised beforehand he probably would have chosen one of the non-vegan desserts. 👏 Service throughout the evening was friendly, efficient and professional. Tables were spotless and food arrived quickly despite the restaurant already being around 60% full when we arrived for our 5pm sitting. 📅 Booking is highly recommended. Saturday evening tables around 7pm can be booked up a month in advance. We managed to secure a 5pm slot about a week beforehand and actually found it worked perfectly with the children. 🏡 The atmosphere is one of the restaurant's biggest strengths. The beautiful floral displays outside create a warm welcome, while the rustic décor, traditional Portuguese-style serving dishes, and character-filled building all add to the experience. The covered courtyard area looked particularly inviting and would be lovely on a warm summer evening. 🚻 The toilet facilities were exceptionally clean and well maintained. 💳 Both cash and card payments are accepted, and there is a small waiting area in the bar if you arrive early or are waiting for your table. ♿ There are a couple of steps on entry, so wheelchair users may wish to check accessibility arrangements directly with the restaurant before visiting. ✨ The Skewer House continues to be one of our favourite places to eat in Somerset. The food is consistently excellent, the portions are generous, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the whole experience feels a little different from your typical restaurant visit.
