The Gateway Inn

Convenient location with great views over the surrounding countryside. There is ample parking a short distance from the main entrance with additional spaces near a side door for anyone with mobility issues. The Gateway is full of ‘old world’ charm so consequently there’s a few creaky floorboards and the odd gurgling pipe, but nothing that would detract from an enjoyable stay. Rooms on the first floor appear to be the best bet (No1 is 👍🏻). The ones on the second floor are better suited to nimble footed light packers. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Food is good and plentiful. However anyone wanting a last minute night cap - bring a bottle as the bar shuts at 10! On the whole a very pleasant stay and good value for money. Would I recommend it/stay there again definitely.

Just spent two nights here with my husband. It is situated very close to kendal and a short drive from Windemere which we thought made it an excellent location. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Even though it is located on a main road, it was very quiet. There is a carpark on site. We ate breakfast here on both mornings of our stay and really enjoyed it. It was very reasonably priced, delicious and kept us full for hours. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to The Lake District.

Amazing stay at The Gateway Inn. We stayed in the family room which was beautifully decorated and a separate room for the kids. Great when the littlest was sleeping. The food was delicious!!! The staff made the stay. They were friendly and very helpful. The views in all directions was breath taking. Would recommend. X

Another lovely meal at the Gateway. We've been a few times now and it never disappoints. As a local it's an easy location to reach and the atmosphere is always pleasant. Food is really tasty and well presented, the roast beef dinner went down a treat. The service from Emma and the team is attentive, friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Excellent value for money and we will be back. Thank you all for looking after us for our lovely family lunch. See you soon!

Gorgeous pub! Visited as a group of 13 and everyone’s food was delicious, service was great, and table had a beautiful view with lots of space for us all. Thank you!

Very classy Hotel. Very nicely decorated rooms. Everythings nice clean shiny. Very nice ambiente. Good breakfast. Stable and fast WiFi. Slightly difficult to reach by foot for walkers, there are footpaths though. For sane people they have a very big car park.

Tasty food, slow and uninspiring service. Booked online. Turned up, booking found, waiter disappeared with menus before asking us to follow. No drinks orders taken when seated, long wait to order, drinks arrived, another wait for the food which was delicious if maybe a little salty. Yet another wait for table to be cleared, yes we'd like desserts but frankly we're fed up with the waiting for things to happen. Dunno if they were short staffed or over busy but we paid up and left. £62 for 3 mains and drinks.
